So there are at least three of us planning on HPDE at NCCAR. Some planning will be necessary to keep costs as low as possible and enjoyment as high as possible. I drove to VIR both days and it is possible to do the same at NCCAR. But NCCAR is a longer drive (15-30 min) and it takes some enjoyment out of it. Last time I did NCCAR I stayed in a hotel. Our options are: driving, camping at the track, or hotel. September should be good for camping (weatherwise). Feedback??

I've been looking at hotel prices for the night and have found a best western in Roanoke Rapids (Garysburg), NC for about $69.00 a night. Not to bad considering it's only for a night. if yall decide to camp I'm down, as long as theres showers.
other than that, what would you recommend bringing outside of the obvious?

FYI on the camping, don't be thinking VIR. The track was built in a cutover, not a lot of open space, and when I was down there in the spring, no grass and the pits area was just a large gravel parking lot, where everyone camped. Now I am sure a lot of improvements have happened between then and now, but how much I don't know. There were showers and a bath room at the school building, but porta-johns in the pits. Now I'm not saying I wouldn't camp, I just don't want anyone to be dissapointed thinking it's a nice as VIR. I have a tent for camping and access to a big camper, but don't know if towing it wouldnt cost as much as the hotel. I get a corporate discount, and my room at the Hampton Inn was $79 a night (reg $119+), very nice room with breakfast included. Thats what I was trying to find out, if I should try to get a couple rooms now. Some of the guys I pitted with used Priceline at the last minute and got rooms for $49 at the Best Western I believe. Garysburg is closest, then Roanoke Rapids, and then Emporia (20 minutes). Last time I stayed Fri & Sat night, but just Sat night would of course be cheaper. Saturday morning we would need to leave L-burg around 5 am to be there for the drivers mtg at 7am

The thing to do may be camp Friday night, hotel Saturday night. That way it saves $$, but you are assured a hot shower and comfortable bed after driving all day Saturday and wont be exhausted Sunday. If thats agreeable I'll see if I can get 2 rooms for Sat

You've got 2 months. Finish the EF, trade the S2K for a truck and dolly, and you'll be track set to haul it all! All that rear wheel drive stuff is overated!

Re-assembled the LS/VTEC with the GSR head (the one that spun the rod). Waiting on a new intake gasket, went ahead and ordered a Golden Eagle heat shield gasket. Also got a oil pressure guage so I can monitor the oil pressure this time, not rely on just the idiot light. Upgraded from the tee fitting on the oil sending to a sandwich plate, and increased the VTEC oil feed line from 1/4 to 3/8 inch. Looks good sitting on the stand, hopefully it will run better this time! Still need to pull the old LS out. Hopefully I can get it installed and tuned before NCCAR

Thanks, would like to get a couple years service out of it, at least get me into racing Honda Challenge for a season. Well I've secured 2 hotel rooms (Hampton Inn Roanoke Rapids)for Friday & Saturday at NCCAR, 1 for myself and 1 for Moon. I can cancel or change the reservations if necessary. I am going to try and find a better deal if possible, and I still may cancel Friday night and camp at the track. When the rest of you guys know what your plans are let me know, I can get additional rooms if needed. PM me if you need prices/details. 2 days of wide open driving on a really neat track, gonna be one to remember, cannot wait!
